After days of teasing, sketches of the upcoming car from Nissan under their brand Datsun has been finally revealed as Datsun Go which will be an entry level hatchback from Nissan to take on the entry level segment.
Though they have plans to launch more cars in coming years but company says they are in process to increase localization and have achieved their target to certain extent. However, once they achieves their goal, the car may go even cheaper. But company says, they are not trying to produce the cheapest car but they are in process to give a car which is one of the cheapest but also high on style, features and specifications. As of now, in terms of pricing , this car will be availble in sub Rs. 4 lacs slot in India.
As per company, one of the prominent feature of “Datsun Go” would its space. They have shifted the gearbox and side brakes in creating more space in the front row. Boasting that extra space when needed which means more space at front row. Though this is nothing new, if you remember similar setup was used in Fiat Premier years ago in India.
Coming to details of the newly launched “Datsun Go”, the car will be powered with 1.2L engine with 5 speed manual transmission with dimension of 3,785mm length and width of 1,635mm, height 1,485mm with wheelbase of 2,450mm.
Datsun will also sell the car in South Africa in the later half of 2014. The hatchback will take on Hyundai’s new hatchback (BA – which is the next generation i10) and Maruti Suzuki’s new small car YL7 (which is a cusp of Zen Estilo and AStar).
Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said, “Datsun will help many realise the dream of a car ownership.” He said that Nissan (and Datsun) aims to capture 10% marketshare by 2016.
